Frequently Asked Questions

Clear, authoritative answers to common poker hand ranking disputes.

What is the absolute highest hand in poker? ▼
The highest possible hand in standard poker is the Royal Flush. It consists of an Ace, King, Queen, Jack, and Ten, all belonging to the exact same suit (e.g., A♠ K♠ Q♠ J♠ 10♠). The mathematical probability of being dealt a Royal Flush in 5 cards is 1 in 649,740.
Does a Flush beat a Full House or a Straight? ▼
A Flush beats a Straight, but a Full House beats a Flush. The official ranking order is: Full House (higher) > Flush > Straight (lower).
How do tie-breakers and kickers work when two players have the same pair? ▼
When two players hold the same pair (e.g., both have a pair of Aces), the highest unpaired side cards (kickers) break the tie. In Texas Hold'em, every player creates the best 5-card hand. If both players share identical kickers, the pot is chopped (split pot).
Can an Ace be used as both high and low in a straight? ▼
Yes! In standard poker, an Ace can act as high (10-J-Q-K-A, called Broadway) or low (A-2-3-4-5, called the Wheel). However, straights cannot "wrap around" (e.g., Q-K-A-2-3 is not a valid poker straight).
Does suit color or rank determine who wins in poker? ▼
No. In standard poker, suits (Spades, Hearts, Diamonds, Clubs) are completely equal in value. No suit is inherently stronger than another. If two players have identical flushes or hands differing only by suit, the pot is split equally.
