Three Crucial Rules to Remember

  • Full House beats a Flush: Never fold a Boat thinking a Flush is stronger.
  • Flush beats a Straight: Five cards of one suit always trump five sequential cards.
  • Ace has dual roles: It can top an Ace-high straight (Broadway) or low an Ace-to-5 straight (Wheel).

FAQ Guide

Frequently Asked Questions

Clear, authoritative answers to common poker hand ranking disputes.

Why do poker hands rank in this specific order? ▼
Poker hand rankings are determined entirely by mathematical probability. The rarer a combination is to deal from a standard 52-card deck, the higher it ranks. A Royal Flush is the rarest hand (only 4 possible combinations out of 2,598,960) and therefore sits at the very top.
Which is better: Flush or Straight? ▼
A Flush is better than a Straight. There are 5,108 possible flushes compared to 10,200 straights in standard 5-card poker, making flushes roughly twice as difficult to make.
Is Two Pair better than Three of a Kind? ▼
No. Three of a Kind beats Two Pair. Three of a Kind has a probability of 2.11%, whereas Two Pair occurs more frequently at 4.75%.
